What is the first thing I need to understand about natural stone?

It is a natural material with variation. Background color will vary from light to dark and veining is not consistent. This is what makes natural stone so unique and beautiful. The selection process starts at the quarry. Marble blocks are quarried from the same area. Stones cut and polished at the factory will be cut from one block or blocks from the same area. As the quarry changes the selection process follows at the factory. The factory may produce tiles, slabs or cut-to-size.
